taylored expressions sketch challenge #108

usually i prefer color challenges to sketch challenges. but this taylored expressions challenge sketch totally inspired me.

right now i'm really into black, pink, and lime green color combinations. so i decided to use them to make a very bold card (that hopefully isn't too busy-lol!)

i started with pink bazzill cardstock (it's not cheap but whenever i can afford it i always buy bazzill it's the BEST cardstock), and cut black cardstock into the four sections i needed for my card. i didn't measure i just eyeballed and kept cutting them down until they all fit :)

the designer paper is from basic grey's indian summer collection (it was love at first sight the first time i layed eyes on the indian summer collection, and i still love it). i used fiskars scalloped border punch, then my fiskars paper trimmer to cut a thin border strip, and adhered to the bottom black strip of cardstock. then took a white gel pen and went around the edge making a faux stitching line.

for the two side pannels i used a glitz gals stamp, shabby shutters distress ink. i stamped the script stamp then used the inking tool to ink the edges. then i inked the tool with vintage photo distress ink, and went around the edges to make them pop a little bit more.

i used hero arts heart winged butterfly, inked with colorbox chalk ink in black. i stamped on top of a kraft sheet, which is great to use because everything wipes up off of a kraft sheet. i tied and knotted white embroidery floss around one of the green panels.

then i began assymbling the pieces for my flower. the green button is just from a bag of button i purchased at wal-mart. i threaded with embroidery floss-which you can find in any craft store-i got mine from Michaels. the black flowers if from a 3 birds card kit that i got from QVC. the pink flower is heidi swapp.

i used glue dots to attach the button and flowers to each other and to the card.

i used recollection's rhinestones to add a little bling to the card & american crafts rootbeer foam thickers for my sentiment.

this card was so much fun to make. i wanted each panel to have something a little different from the others to make it unique. i love the bright bold mix of pink and green, and the black just helps them pop so much.
thanks for looking.
blog ya later.

  1. Love this...... great colours and the black is perfect as a background for them. At last I've found someone else who leaves the ruler behind and goes by how it looks..... I have enough stuff on my desk without adding a ruler and remembering measurements!! Must remember to draw on stitches next time, I cant believe people really sew their cards... cant bring myself to set up the machine just for that.
